How to get the Basic Pickaxe
- Complete Molly's Helping Molly task to secure the Rusty Pickaxe and begin Mining progression.
- Enter the Mall and reach the mines through the food court.
- Find the Mall Rat just inside the Mall Mine.
- Reach Mining level 2 and purchase the Basic Pickaxe. The shop reference lists a 150g purchase price.
How to make Copper Bars
The Farmer's Path task chain provides access to early farm systems, while The Skull Chalice starts with a Furnace and its crafting recipe. The official item reference lists Copper Ore as a mine resource and Copper Bars as its smelted form.
- Mine Copper Ore in the Mall Mine, Old Woods Mine, or Workshop Mine.
- Use a Furnace to smelt the ore into Copper Bars.
- Keep bars needed for tool recipes before selling extras; Copper Bars are a recurring crafting ingredient.
Sturdy Pickaxe recipe
Forge the Sturdy Pickaxe in the Workshop at Mining level 3. Because both earlier pickaxes are ingredients, do not discard or lose track of them before forging the upgrade.

Mining access notes
- Small Mine Keys open small mine doors and are consumed on use.
- They can be found while foraging in the Mall Mines or purchased from Mall Rat and the Forge Shop.
- A Small Mine Key can occasionally be required for the Mall Mine F3 door.
- Basic Skeleton Keys are a different consumable item and should not be treated as pickaxe upgrades.
