The crop rules that control profit
- Most crops need daily watering to advance growth. Missing water does not kill them, but it stops that day's growth.
- The season changes after the 28th day, and crops outside their valid season wither.
- The day rolls over at midnight whether or not the player sleeps.
- Farming level provides a 1% crop-growth bonus per level.
- Some crops produce multiple items or regrow, so seed price alone does not determine value.
Verified early crop examples
These values come from the current official crop reference. Higher-quality produce sells for more, and Wheat's variable yield changes its final return. Use the table as a calculation example, not a permanent claim that one crop is always best in every season or recipe plan.
| Crop | Seed cost | Growth | Yield | Base sell price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Wheat | 5g | 4 nights | 1–3 | 12g |
| Radish | 10g | 4 nights | 1 | 40g |
| Celery | 15g | 8 nights | 1 | 85g |
How to compare crop income
- Confirm that the crop grows in the current season and can finish before day 28.
- Multiply the documented sell value by the expected number of harvested items.
- Subtract the seed price to get the direct crop margin.
- For regrowing crops, include each harvest that can occur before the season ends.
- Reserve produce required for tasks, cooking, gifts, or crafting before treating every item as sale inventory.
- Reinvest only after keeping enough money for tools, keys, bait, or travel needed by your next progression goal.
Start the farm systems
Farmer Hans's The Farmer's Path asks for one Wheat and rewards a Grinder while opening more of Chef Elroy's recipe shop. Old Man Crawford is the common early seed seller. Farming therefore supports both direct sales and later cooking progression.
The Skull Chalice task begins with a Furnace and its recipe, connecting farm planning to mining and smelting. A balanced route can water crops first, then use the remaining day for the Mall Mine, fishing, relationships, or Old Woods tasks.
Avoid common income losses
- Do not plant a crop that cannot finish before the season changes.
- Do not count a multi-yield maximum as a guaranteed harvest when the reference gives a range.
- Do not sell every Copper Bar or task crop before checking tool and quest requirements.
- Do not let midnight surprise you during a long route; the day changes even without sleep.
- Do not use an outdated 'best crop' list without checking the official crop table for the current build.
